Action Against Hunger is an International Non-Governmental Organization that is charitable, impartial, non-political, independent and non-profit making. Action Against Hunger overall objective in these contexts is to fight against hunger and this is achieved through the implementation of nutrition, health, food security and water & sanitation (WASH) projects. Action Against Hunger is seeking motivated, dynamic and experienced candidates for the following positions:

 

Health and Nutrition Team Leader

 

Duration of Contract: 12 Months                                                    

LOCATIONS: Moyamba

END OF CONTRACT DATE: 30th June 2019                                

STARTING DATE: 16th July 2018

PROBATION PERIOD: Three (3) Months                                   

SUPERVISED BY: Field Monitor

NUMBER OF CANDIDATES: Two (2)

 

Assignments:

Support the DHMT in the management of acute malnutrition according to the IMAM national protocol so as to improve community mobilization, detection and referral of malnourished children in Moyamba District.

Objective 1:  Team management:

Activities:

  • Participate in the recruitment of staff.
  • Draw up a planning of the work involved for each post.
  • Organize regular evaluation meetings of team members.
  • Organize training courses for the team after identifying gaps.
  • Organize monthly meetings with the team and report the outcome to the Program Manager.
  • Keep an updated register of the staff (absences, overtime);
  • Supervise the daily and monthly reports of the team.
  • If there is a problem, find out what is wrong and find a solution or contact the Program Manager.
  • In case of a conflict between team members try to mediate and refer to Program Manager as needed.
  • Check the way in which the team interacts with the beneficiaries and those accompanying them
  • Ensure good coordination and collaboration with other nutrition team members and support departments

Objective 2: Support DHMT to manage and supervise the Community Mobilization, Detection and Referral: joint activities and monitoring:

Activities :

  • Follow and respect the current protocols.
  • Design, test and disseminate IEC tools adapted to the local context with the community mobilisation team.
  • Ensure the availability of community mobilisation tools at community as well as PHU level in collaboration with the Program Manager.
  • Ensure that there is a working and correct referral system for the identified malnourished children from the community to PHU and from the PHU to the IPF.
  • Sensitize traditional and religious leaders and healers on IMAM program following the national protocol.
  • Compile the statistical data and draft a report on activities.
  • Plan and organize mobilization/awareness/sensitization activities with the community mobilisation team: FGD, Radio Discussion, etc.
  • Organize joint monitoring visits together with DHMT; identify the weaknesses of Community Mobilization, detection and referral and draft recommendations

Objective 3: : Data management, reporting and program

development

Activities:

  • Ensure proper recording of the information related to the implementation of the Community Mobilization activities.
  • Draft monthly community mobilization report through APR format and update the Program Manager on the status of the program and performance of the staff.

Objective 4: Represent the organization in relation with the

project to the local authorities and other partners:

Activities :

  •  Action Against Hunger representation for Community Mobilization, detection and referral activities in related forums and meetings.
  • Present the project to the various local partners.
  • Liaise with the authorities, committees and other beneficiaries

Objective 5: Other responsibilities:

Activities:

  • Request for allowances, as well as corresponding bills timely submitted to manager.
  • Respect of all Action Against Hunger procedures (Human Resources, Logistics & IT, Finance, etc.) 
  • Alert manager on all issues that have an important impact or no identified solution or need support to be solved
  • Good working relations between Action Against Hunger, DHMT and health facilities

 

Qualification and Experience:

  • Certificate/Diploma in social work, development studies, sociology or its equivalent.
  • 1-2 Years Professional teaching and training experiences with different awareness methods and home economics education.
  • Experience in Nutrition is a plus

 

Required skills:

  • Good knowledge of the intervention area and the local culture
  • Good organizational ability
  • Good capacity to work in a team
  • Good relations and ability to communicate with others.
  • Knowledge of the languages spoken in the region.
  • Knowledge of English an asset.
  • Capacity to drive motorbike (driving license)
