Action Against Hunger is an International Non-Governmental Organization that is charitable, impartial, non-political, independent and non-profit making. Action Against Hunger overall objective in these contexts is to fight against hunger and this is achieved through the implementation of nutrition, health, food security and water & sanitation (WASH) projects. Action Against Hunger is seeking motivated, dynamic and experienced candidates for the following positions:

 

Capacity Building Nutritionist (Seconded to DHMT)

 

Duration of Contract: 11 Months                                                     

LOCATIONS: Moyamba

END OF CONTRACT DATE: 15th June 2019                                

STARTING DATE: 16th July 2018

PROBATION PERIOD: Three (3) Months                                    

SUPERVISED BY: Nutrition Program Manager

NUMBER OF CANDIDATES: One (1)

 

Assignment:

Support DHMT especially the District Nutritionist to carry out nutrition care and medical follow-up of the patients in the centre: OTP and/or IPF.

Objective 1: Develop the capacity of the Health staff to manage  IMAM and IMNCI activities in collaboration with DHMT

Activity:

  • In collaboration with DHMT  participate to the identification of the health centre that will participate to the project
  • In collaboration with DHMT, plan an initial  and refresher training for the health staff in charge of the  IMAM activities in PHU
  • Support DHMT in the development of training material on IMAM  in collaboration with DHMT
  • Follow- up  the availability of national IMAM  and IMNCI protocols and its adherence to OTP activities in PHU
  • Plan with DHMT and PHU staff to organise on the job  coaching schedule for effective and quality IMAM and IMNCI implementation in PHUs
  • Conduct supportive  supervision (reporting, record keeping, adherence to OTP procedures etc)  in collaboration with the District Nutritionist to  health staff on  IMAM  activities at PHU
  • Use adequate nutrition and health tools and appropriate coaching  methodology  for  capacity building of PHU staff especially on IMAM
  • Promote strong linkages between the nutrition program and other existing health programs between the PHU and community
  • Follow the effective management of beneficiaries during triage at PHU during follow up visit ;
  • Participate and follow- up  on the consumption pattern of RUTF to   admitted SAM patient in the program and liaise with DHMT for stock outs
  • Employ varied method of capacity building technique including peer to peer methodology, formal and informal coaching etc to PHU staff for quality IMAM implementation

Objective 2 : Support DHMT on  IMAM management

Activities :

  • Propose to PM for the attention of DHMT on the need for improvement on health training programme with recommendations
  • Train the team in the rules of hygiene, prescriptions and medical supervision;
  • Train the team in IMAM nutrition protocol according to identified weaknesses with medical team.
  • Plan and report on training sessions: on job trainings, refresher trainings…
  • Organise monthly meeting with the health CMAM staff
  • In case of malfunctioning, identify the problems and find solutions or refer to your manager ;
  • Supervise the monthly statistics reports and ensure that monthly reports are sent and received by  DHMT on time  ;
  • Organise joint monitoring visit of the IMAM activities with DHMT.
  • Inform Manager on the attitude on PHU in-charges/ PHU staffs that affect the smooth running of IMAM in PHUs for the attention of DHMT

Objective 3: Reporting and planning  activities

Activities:

  • Submit monthly activity plans and reports regarding your activities, problems  solutions and recommendation
  • Participate to Activity Progress Report monthly reports (narrative and quantitative)
  • Contribute to  forecast for the team PR and SRO development sent to manager
  • Ensure the availability of signing sheet for trainings  and signing of participants Ensure the signing of all donation certificates done to PHU/Hospitals
  • Respect of all Action Against Hunger procedures (HR, Logs & IT and Finances etc.) 
  • Ensure that nutrition activities are implemented with high quality
  • Alert DHMT and Action Against Hunger Nutrition Manager on all issues that have an important impact or no identified solution or need support to be solved
  • Timely and adequately reporting on nutrition program
  • Good working relations between Action Against Hunger, DHMT and Health facilities.

 

Qualification and Experience:

  • Degree/Diploma in nutrition, Medicine or  CHO
  • 3-4 Years’ experience in data collection and management

 

Required skills:

  • Good relations with other people
  • Good capacity to work in a team,
  • Capacity to manage priorities, 
  • Capacity to share knowledge and train colleagues.
