Action Against Hunger is an International Non-Governmental Organization that is charitable, impartial, non-political, independent and non-profit making. Action Against Hunger overall objective in these contexts is to fight against hunger and this is achieved through the implementation of nutrition, health, food security and water & sanitation (WASH) projects. Action Against Hunger is seeking motivated, dynamic and experienced candidates for the following positions:

 

Community Health & Nutrition Promoter

 

Duration of Contract: 11 Months                                                    

LOCATIONS: Moyamba

END OF CONTRACT DATE: 30th June 2019                              

STARTING DATE: 16th   July 2018

PROBATION PERIOD: Three (3) Months                                    

SUPERVISED BY: Nutrition Team Leader

NUMBER OF CANDIDATES: Eight (8)

 

Assignments:

Manage the community mobilisation activities (awareness, screening and referral) with DHMT,Community Health Workers and IYCF lead mothers

 

Objective 1:   Plan activities for implementation and achievement of community mobilisation program goals

Activities:

  • Participate on the Community Mobilisation strategy with the Team Leader
  • Participate in the identification of community stake holders to support community mobilization activities
  • Coordinate  AAH  activities with other partners already working into the community with CHW
  • Identify the area near the PHU supported to launch the community activities
  • Collaboration with MoHS/ PHU staff, community stakeholders  and  Community Health Workers for community health system strengthening activities    in Moyamba
  • Contribute to the  development of  IEC tools in collaboration with MoHS for screening and referral of   SAM/ MAM children, pregnant and lactating women and MIYCF activities
  • Identify the needs regarding awareness and sensitisation on nutrition activities
  • Participate in designing/testing/disseminating IEC Tools adapted to the local context with the program management;
  • Check the advancement of activities and the impact of the sensitising sessions;
  • Follow the donation of IEC Material and tools provided by AAH;
  • Identify weaknesses and challenges on AAH activities and propose possible improvements; make a list of priorities in term of information and awareness and possible recommendation

Objective 2: Train and mobilize the members of beneficiary communities, community health workers:

Activities:

  • Participate in elaborating training modules and suitable teaching materials with the programme management;
  • Organize training sessions for community agents and/or targeted populations according to the needs;
  • Mobilize the communities by applying the methodology defined for the sensitising sessions such as FGD, screening activities in collaboration with community stake holders and Radio discussion
  • Train MIYCF lead mothers and collaborate with lead mothers on formation of MIYCF groups
  • Participate in the formation of MIYCF cascaded mother to mother groups

Objective 3: Represent the organisation with the partners:

Activities:

  • Present the project to the various local partners, traditional and religious leaders and healers
  • Liaise with the authorities, committees, PHU staff and other beneficiaries

Objective 4: Reporting and planning

Activities:

  • Present a weekly report on activities formatted by the Team Leader
  • Compile and produce  activity monthly report to team leader proposing   solution and recommendation
  • Work out a schedule for the sensitisation  activities, screening and referral activities and IYCF FGD meetings etc
  • Update  the Team Leader on a daily basis on urgent issue that required attention for the attention of the PM
  • Comply with Action Against Hunger internal procedures from HR
  • Ensure the signing of attendance sheet during training and meetings
  • Ensure the signing of donation certificates

Contribute to forecast for the team activities

 

Qualification and Experience:

  • Certificate/Diploma in social work, development studies, sociology or its equivalent.
  • 1-2 Years Professional teaching and training experiences with different awareness methods and home economics education.
  • Experience in Nutrition is a plus

 

Required skills:

  • Good knowledge of the intervention area and the local culture
  • Good organizational ability
  • Good capacity to work in a team
  • Good relations and ability to communicate with others.
  • Knowledge of the languages spoken in the region.
  • Knowledge of English an asset.
  • Capacity to drive motorbike (driving license)
