Location: Western Area (based in Waterloo)

Contract Type: Fixed Term

We are seeking competent, reliable and self-motivated individuals to contribute to our Global Priorities by joining us in our Sierra Leone Country Office to ensure the delivery of high quality project activities in the target communities with a focus on building the capacity of Save the Children staff and key institutions with which SC collaborates, including both government and non-government agencies and organizations to ensure project quality and sustainability.


In this role, you will work closely with the Project Managers/Project Coordinators ensuring quality evidence-based programming, provide significant experience and support to improve ideas to strengthen MEAL within the various thematic programmes. The position requires the MEAL Officer to Provide sustained capacity building support through training, development and strengthening of the required MEAL systems.

S/he will contribute towards ensuring that all SCI and Partner projects are continually monitored for their effectiveness and appropriateness and ensure that lessons are documented and communicated to inform on-going implementation and future programming.


  • In order to be successful in this role, you should have previous experience in all aspects of programme development, including programme/project monitoring, review & evaluation and strong knowledge in Social Science – Statistics, Economics or equivalent field and the ability to engage effectively with people at all levels from different cultures.  


Child Protection level - 3 the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.


  • National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Social Science – Statistics, Economics or equivalent field with at least two- three years of relevant experience preferably in INGO setting.



  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategically

  • Strong skills and experience in all aspects of programme development, including programme/project monitoring, review & evaluation.

  • Substantial experience of developing working relations with government, community stakeholders and children

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and substantial experience in preparing projects proposals and reports to donors.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and commitment to capacity building of staff.

  • Understanding of social relations and commitment to integrate gender, diversity and other power related issues into programme activities

  • Demonstrable experience and knowledge of effective financial and budgetary control and managing grants.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to projects and stay in basic conditions.

  • Proficiency in computer e.g.  MS Word, MS Power Point and Excel.  

Contract length: 9 months
