Open position with Population Services International (PSI) in Sierra Leone

PSI and its local affiliates manage malaria control programs in 32 countries and are world leaders in malaria control implementation—delivering 25 million treated mosquito nets and almost 16 million quality-assured ACTs for confirmed malaria cases in 2016.  PSI also supports national Ministries of Health to scale up malaria diagnosis in the public and private sector and to improve tracking of malaria patients through surveillance and health information systems using DHIS2 software. 

In 2018, PSI began implementing the global US President’s Malaria Initiative Impact Malaria project, with the goal of working with national governments to scale up best practices and innovations in malaria case management, control of malaria in pregnancy, and the introduction of other malaria drug-based approaches. In Sierra Leone, PSI is seeking qualified, dynamic and innovation-driven candidates for multiple positions with the Impact Malaria (IM) project. Surveillance, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

Based in Freetown, Sierra Leone

Reports to SM&E Manager


  • Work with the M&E Manager on all M&E components of the project including assisting the Manager in overseeing the development of the project’s M&E Plan, annual work plans, quarterly reports, semi-annual and annual reports.

  • Participate with the M&E Manager in the design and implementation of innovative M&E tools to measure project impact that align with the project’s strategic goals and performance indicators.

  • Assist in the production of the project’s Data Quality Assessment and reports in compliance with donor and PSI rules and regulations on indicators, results and impact.

  • Support the project team in country in a routine manner on data interpretation and promote regular use of data for program improvement.

  • Participate in the design of data quality assurance mechanisms and data validation.

  • Coordinate data entry with the Clinical Training Officers (CTO) and processing and develop a data analysis plan per reporting requirements.

  • Assist the building of the M&E capacity of both local organizations and the government to design, implement, and monitor M&E activities, develop an M&E plan, and use malaria case management and surveillance data effectively across various levels of the health system.

  • Ensure the application of global best practices in the generation and use of routine data for this project.


  • At least a bachelor’s degree in statistics, or public health or related field with five (5) years of professional work OR Master of Public Health and two (2) years of professional work

  • Experience with DHIS2

  • Experience in coordinating, leading or facilitating training on malaria data collection tools/M&E

  • Ability to interact with a broad range of governmental and non-governmental actors and institutions across sectors.

  • Demonstrated strong subject matter expertise in data collection, analysis, and reporting. 

  • Demonstrated experience working with the government sector in Sierra Leone.

  • Fluent in English and Krio

  • References will be required.
